Augusta: A Gem in the Eastern Part of Georgia

AAE recently visited Augusta, Ga. This city in the far eastern part of Georgia is most notable for The Masters golf tournament, held each spring at Augusta National Country Club. But it has far more to offer.

It is home to Augusta University, one of Georgia's leading medical universities. The sprawling campus sits right on the edge of the city's downtown.

The city also has the Savannah River running right through it, and it takes full advantage with its scenic Riverwalk area that lets people stroll, jog or bicycle right beside the body of water. And right across the river is North Augusta, S.C., which also offers lovely attractions and a great riverside presence.

And the city has plenty of entertainment options, especially in the downtown area. There are quite a few shops, restaurants and bars that offer an eclectic mix of options.

And perhaps most importantly, Augusta is the hometown of music legend James Brown, the Godfather of Soul, who is commemorated with a statue in the downtown area, and with an arena that bears his name not far away.
