The crowded crossover/wagon segment of the automotive market is full of versatile vehicles that offer plenty of appeal, including today's tester, the 2023 Lexus UX.
This five-seat subcompact luxury wagon is available in a gasoline-powered model, the UX 200, or gas-electric hybrid, UX 250h. Our tester, the UX 200, has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 169 horsepower and front-wheel drive. The UX 250h makes 181 horsepower and has all-wheel drive.
The UX 200 offers car-like handling, a comfortable front seating area, multimedia controls on the armrest and great fuel economy (29 mpg city, 37 highway).
Seating in the back and space in the cargo area are both quite limited, so that's something to consider if you have people- and cargo-hauling needs.
Also, the touchpad interface for the multimedia system is not great. It can be a little frustrating.
But overall, this is a pretty cool little vehicle.
Pricing starts at around $37,000 and ranges to around $42,000.
The Lexus UX is a sporty little wagon with a nice touch of luxury.
